Back to the Future in Disco

奶奶在影片中做了一场“迪斯科梦”，与过去的自己、家人，以及现在、未来的自己相聚。它像是一场未来的庆典，在各式各样的身体里，既延续着过去民俗与传统的踪迹，也装载着流行文化的痕迹，以及每个人对于故乡的眷恋。

In the film, grandmother has a ‘disco dream’, where she gathers with her past self, her family, and her present and future selves. It feels like a celebration of the future, where each body carries traces of folk traditions and popular culture, along with a deep nostalgia for home.

二高（何其沃），生于1985年，广东阳江人，毕业于香港演艺学院舞蹈学院，2007年创立当代表演机构“二高表演”，目前生活与工作于广州及顺德。其艺术实践游走于身份、性别和文化的交叉地带，在边缘的缝隙中编织短暂的相聚，一个在流动时空中集结的家“Trans-family”（跨领域流动家庭）。以“社区/社群作为工作方法”，他拒绝以筑造视角他者化工作对象，而是用栖居的角度（dwelling perspective）直接面对并主动与之相处。作品中频繁出现不合时宜的身体，流行音乐与舞蹈，低科技技术，中国南方艳俗的日常与山寨的人造景观，以及夹杂其中的情感纠葛，构成他回应当下的语言——“合成现场”。

He Qiwo, aka Ergao, born in 1985, comes from Yangjiang, Guangdong. He graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Ever since he founded Ergao Dance Production Group (EDPG) in 2007. And now he is living and working in Guangzhou and ZuoTan Village, Shunde.
His artistic practice navigates the intersections of identity, gender, and culture, weaving fleeting moments of togetherness in the margins, forming a “Trans-family” — a gathering in a fluid space-time (Interdisciplinary Fluid Family). Adopting “community as a working method,” he rejects the outsider’s gaze that objectifies his subjects from constructive perspective. Instead, he engages directly and actively from a “dwelling perspective”, immersing himself in their world.
His works often feature an anachronistic/queer body, pop music and dance, low-tech techniques, the gaudy everyday life and replicas of iconic landmarks in Southern China, complex emotional entanglements, all intertwined within these elements. Together, they form his response to the present: “site-synthetic”.

In Zuotan Village, Shunde, in Southern China, we envisioned a cyber dancehall for the local aunties—a communal space for collective dreaming, a spiritual hall filled with the flow of time and nostalgia for home.
