在都市的一间出租屋里，青年马哲过着独居生活——外表平静，内心却充满纷乱的思绪。过去的创伤、隐秘的情感和无法言说的身份认同像潮水般反复冲刷他的内心，如同梦魇。他与亲人无法调和的疏离、对自己欲望的逃避，让他困于自我构建的房间之中。直至一场梦境般的对话，他终于试图打开那扇从未开启的门。

In a rented apartment in the city, a young man named Ma Zhe lives alone. Though he appears calm on the surface, his mind is a storm of tangled thoughts. Past traumas, hidden emotions, and an unspoken struggle with his identity wash over him like relentless waves—haunting him like a nightmare. The irreconcilable distance from his family and his denial of his own desires have trapped him inside a room of his own making. It is not until a dreamlike conversation that he finally attempts to open the door he has never dared to touch.

Leng Yan (pen name), originally from Jiangsu, China, conducted research on queer cinema and queer theory during their time in university. They previously ran a gender-focused public WeChat account titled “流体Flux,” which published articles on queer cinema, theory, and history, as well as queer manifestos and socio-cultural commentaries. The account has since been permanently banned. Alone is their first short film.

《一个人的房间》是在我个人真实经历的基础上进行的创作，是描绘作为一名同性恋者的挣扎、孤独与情感压抑的故事。即使作为已经接受了酷儿思想洗礼的人，却仍走不出自己在压抑的社会环境下所深陷的心灵黑洞。因而，它诉说着“成长”与“出柜”背后最私密的情绪现实。

Alone is a work based on my personal experiences. It tells the story of the struggles, loneliness, and emotional repression faced by a gay individual. Even after being deeply influenced by queer thought, I still find myself unable to escape the emotional void created by a repressive social environment. The film thus articulates the most intimate emotional realities behind the experiences of “coming of age” and “coming out.”
