Zhao Yuntong

Zhao Yuntong is a graduate student currently studying at the Department of Experimental Art, Central Academy of Fine Arts, who takes video as the core medium to construct an artistic language system that integrates body performance and identity replacement experiments. Zhao’s works deconstruct the topology of social power through fictional narratives, and embed a dual observational perspective of esoteric symbols and human behavior archives in the metaphorical expression of gender politics and class orders.

Director’s Statement

“Onions are not love; what comes after the onions is.” Those in power always beat around the bush when explaining the rules. Marginalized groups can be excluded from the collective at any time. The answer no longer matters after repeated questioning; the creation of the question itself is what is profound and enduring.
