Director’s Statement
As a gay Asian man, I am fortunate to have the support of my family, which spares me from resorting to a sham marriage to escape the pressures of traditional societal prejudices, or feeling compelled to pursue surrogacy to fulfill expectations of carrying on the family line. However, countless other gay Asians are not so fortunate and must confront these daunting challenges.
I know several LGBTQ couples who, to escape societal pressure or appease their families, chose surrogacy. Many of them form partnerships between gay men and lesbian women to conceal their sexual orientation. Yet, when I see their children, I am filled with questions. How will these couples explain their unique family dynamics to their children as they grow older? This thought inspired me to create this short film.
