Introverted space princess Saira is unexpectedly dumped by her girlfriend Kiki for being too needy. But when Kiki is kidnapped by the Straight White Maliens, they demand the one thing Saira doesn’t have: the most powerful weapon known to lesbian kind – her royal labrys.

Leela Varghese is an award-winning Australian writer/director known for joyful queer stories spotlighting cultural diversity; her short I’m The Most Racist Person I Know premiered at SXSW Austin 2025.

Emma Hough Hobbs is an Adelaide-based queer filmmaker, animator, and production designer; their award-winning short On Film competed at SXSW Sydney 2023, with credits including A24’s Talk To Me.

Producer Tom Phillips is an award-winning writer/director/producer (Lucy and DiC; SPA Ones to Watch 2018).

简而言之，《太空女同战斗姬》以荒诞喜剧为表，内里暗藏犀利诙谐的政治隐喻。想象你最爱的科幻电影，但主角全换成女同志！生动诙谐的配音表演是影片的灵魂核心，多元的酷儿有色人种女性角色是我们的叙事中心。我们还通过真实选角呈现LGBTQIA+群体与有色人种角色，为《太空女同战斗姬》的世界注入血肉，而原创音乐将为科幻类型注入独立电影气质。 

面对有限的动画预算，我们用非常规手法赋予作品蓬勃的表现力与创造力。视觉风格汲取《探险活宝》等卡通神韵，而剪辑与镜头语言则更贴近《少女革命》等经典动漫。 

作为创作搭档，我们各自拥有独特的技能与视角。除了电影人的身份以外，我们还分别是动画师/美术指导和音乐喜剧人，这为实现惊艳视觉与喜剧表演奠定了坚实基础。我们和这部作品结下了很深的个人羁绊，也倾注了所有心血，势必要打造一部真正属于女性、酷儿群体与有色人种的真诚电影。

Lesbian Space Princess is the product of one lesbian’s lifelong obsession with animation, another lesbian’s burning desire to make people laugh and their combined longing for stories that are fresh, female driven and and gay AF. This film will be an ode to low-budget anime, a hilarious love letter to lesbians and most importantly – heaps of fun. 

In a few words Lesbian Space Princess is campy and comedic with a biting undercurrent of cheeky and incisive political commentary. Imagine your favourite sci-fi movie but with lesbians. Strong comedic voice performances will be the beating heart of the film. We will put complex queer women of colour characters to the front. Authentic casting for LGBTQIA+ characters and people of colour will bring a genuineness to the world of Lesbian Space Princess. Original acoustic songs/music will create a unique indie twist to the sci-fi genre. 

An unorthodox approach to a low animation budget will make Lesbian Space Princess feel expressive and inventive. Our film will visually draw from cartoons such as Adventure Time while our editing and coverage will more strongly resemble anime hits like Revolutionary Girl Utena. 

As a filmmaking duo we bring our own special skill sets and perspectives to the table. On top of being filmmakers, our artistic backgrounds respectively as an animator/production designer and a musical comedian give us a strong foundation for achieving our ambitions of compelling visuals and comedic performances. With such a personal connection to the project we bring a whole lotta heart to it. We will create a film that brings an authentic new voice that women, the queer community and people of colour deserve.
