故事梗概 Synopsis
2021年3月，一地鸡毛Ballroom在北京举行。年轻又充满张力的queer们点亮了那个夜晚，尽情表达着他们的态度。在这其中有一个身影，娇小、不起眼，她就安静地坐在那，直到主办方呼喊她的名字，并在runway上授予了她一项社群贡献大奖。她叫刘培麟，更多人叫她大喜哥。
故事由此开始，我们跟随大喜参加人生第一次ballroom，纪录前后始末：她和一众年轻人参加runway的课程、准备ballroom的服装、塔罗牌占卜自己的爱情……通过此次北京之行，我们探寻大喜对年轻的ballroom场景的看法，以及更重要的，在变装的28个春秋后，大喜怎么看待作为跨性别的自己。
In March 2021, Feather and Fur Voguing Ballroom was held in Beijing. The young and inspiring queers lit up the night and expressed themselves. Among the noisy crowd, a tiny lady sat there quietly until the organizers called her name and presented her with a community service award on runway. Her name is Peilin Liu. More people call her Da XI.
The story begins as we follow Da Xi attending her first ballroom, where she takes a runway course with a group of young people, prepares her ballroom costume, and divines her romantic relationship with tarot card… On this trip to Beijing, we explore Da Xi’s sentiment of the young ballroom scene and, more importantly, how she sees herself as a transgender woman after 28 years of cross-dressing life.
导演介绍 Director Biography
李润琦，导演、制片，毕业于爱丁堡大学电影导演专业。因非虚构叙事进入影像世界，喜欢真实有韧劲的故事。尤其关注女性、性少数和青年文化方面的议题。从独立影像到商业内容，每一个项目都由自己亲手搭建，真诚是一切的前提。
参加71届爱丁堡国际艺术节开幕短片制作；FIRST青年电影展训练营入选制片。曾为VICE、腾讯视频等平台制作文化体验纪录片《我们的浪潮》，INTO1纪录式真人秀《音途万里》。商业领域合作的客户有哇唧唧哇、京东、DIESEL等。
Runqi Li is a bilingual director and producer based in Beijing. She earned her MA degree in Film Directing at the University of Edinburgh. Runqi’s journey to the film world started from her passion of non-fiction storytelling. She’s dedicated to bring the provocative and raw stories to the world. As a creative filmmaker, Runqi particularly focuses on female sexuality, underrepresented communities，LGBTQ and youth culture in China with global appeal.
For both independent films and commercial content, Runqi dives into every project she produces. She insists sincerity is the core of her every work.
Runqi was involved in making opening film of the 71st Edinburgh International Festival. She also directed and produced a series of content for VICE media and a global episodic series for Tencent Video. As a bilingual producer she has overseas produce experiences in the U.S., Korea, India and UK, where she worked with local fixer teams and kept projects running smoothly. For branded content and TVC, Runqi’s clients include Warner Bros., Jäegermeister, JNBY, JD and more.
Runqi’s director work JNBY Persona Liberation was nominated Best Commercial Content in 2020 HiShorts! Film Festival.
导演阐述 Director Statement
我第一次知道大喜是通过很多年前的新闻，一个“男扮女装”的人站在狼藉里忙乱地解释不是自己引起的火灾。
在此之后我没有听到过任何有关大喜的消息。去年，一位朋友告诉我她请了大喜来北京参加一地鸡毛的ballroom。我脑子里面马上浮现出了曾在新闻中看过的那张脸，便决定拍摄。在片中我们呈现了大喜以怎样的姿态出现在ballroom中，她如何看待这一切，年轻人又是如何看待她的。更重要的，抛开“跨性别者”这个身份，好好看看大喜这个人本身。
l learned of Da Xi through the fire news many years ago. Amid the rubble, a white-faced man ran toward the camera, scrambling to explain that he knew nothing about the fire. I looked at the image and felt a strange harmony in such a person standing before his burned-down house. Because of the fire, people started to call him Da XI.
Last April, my friend Alex told me that she had invited Da Xi to Beijing for the Feather and Fur Voguing Ballroom. At that moment, Da Xi’s face occurred to me. It’s hard to forget her extremely white face, with its heavy black eye shadow and untidy wig. I wondered how she would appear in the ballroom and find her place in this young LGBTQ scene. More importantly, I wanted to explore more about Da Xi besides her transgender identity.
Over the days we spent with her, she always recalled the era of Chairman Mao. She loved that era because everything seemed stable and affordable to live. I realized that there is always a gap between she and me, which provides me with a perfect place to observe her and makes everything wonderful.
