Summertime. You and me. There is no word to describe us. Are we friends or are we lovers?
Shane and Jonathan first meet at a primary school by the sea. Shane is the class clown, while Jonathan is the no.1 student. One day, the teacher sets up a game called “Little Guardian Angel” where good students are paired with bad students in order to reform them. Against his will, Jonathan is paired with Shane. What starts off as an awkward friendship gradually evolves into forbidden love.
No matter how the stars spin in the universe, Jonathan always stands by Shane. No matter what happens, Jonathan always supports Shane through thick and thin. Until the day a lonely girl called Carrie, enters their lives. Like a fast-burning comet, she brings hope, beauty, happiness, and sorrow.
Earthquakes may shatter economy and politics, but it cannot break the secret between the three young people.
When Shane, Jonathan, and Carrie go back to the beach, returning to the origin of their story, they finally understand that…no matter what secret they have… no soul was born to be alone.
Bio-filmography of Director:
Born March 3, 1981, Leste CHEN is one of the most prolific and successful young directors in Taiwan. Despite his tender age and student status, he has already had extensive directing experience both on film and video. He has directed more than a dozen music videos for artists including Taiwan’s most popular songstress Jolin Tsai, Rainy Yang, superband Mayday, Hong Kong artists Joey Yung and Eason Chan. His short films have been nominated consistently at the Taipei Film Festival for several years, and his first feature film “The Heirloom” created the largest opening box office of a local film in Taiwan since “Double Vision”. It went on to win the no.2 annual box office award, and has been sold across Asia, and to the U.S. and European countries.
Leste Chen’s works are characterized by mood, fluid camera movement, stylized production design, compelling use of music, nuanced performances from young actors, and themes of young love exposed against cruel circumstances. He is an avid film buff, and enjoys watching films on the big screen at least once a week. His cinematic influences include Pedro Almodovar, Alejandro Amenabar, Alfonso Cuaron, Iwai Shunji, and Kim Ji-Woon.
