故事梗概

影片由晶莹透彻的水底开始。美少年小天在水中与另一健壮男子缠绵,但男子的脸却始终失焦看不清楚。正当小天再次试图一窥男子的脸时,闹钟响起… 小天惊醒!原来又是一场春梦。  

为了寻找“梦中情人”,小天,一个纯净优质的处男,决定千里迢迢来到台北展开一场疯狂的性冒险。当晚,在知名同志酒吧里,小天与久未见面的国中好友- 小宇重逢,并看到了同志圈最有价值的单身汉- 白铁男。小天对铁男大为心仪,而铁男也对憨直的处男小天留下深刻印象。但是小宇再三告诫小天:白铁男是有名的花心大萝菠,要小天千万不要招惹他。

在朋友的介绍下,小天开始在健身房打工,同时体验都会生活。除了接受外型上的改造,小天也开始盲目约会,更差点被色诱… 直到有一天,小天在健身房又巧遇了铁男,两人在淋浴间水气弥漫的情况下有了更进一步的接触。小天虽喜欢铁男,但铁男身旁总是跟着一个男人- 俊,让小天怀疑有关铁男花心不负责的流言,是否真实。

一次偶然的机会让小天与铁男独处,双方并尝试开始交往,但俊仍不时出没,令小天十分困扰。尤其一次严重的误会让小天以为铁男与俊仍藕断丝连,顿时伤心欲绝。小宇等一干好友决定找铁男说清楚、讲明白,却意外发现原来铁男有一个无法告人的秘密!

导演介绍

陈映蓉。台湾第一位80后电影导演。毕业于元智大学。短片【Sorry Spy】于台湾国际学生金狮奖影展获奖。【The Lost R5411】入围金马国际影展DV竞赛。自谕由好莱坞奶水养大的她,手法风格深受盖瑞奇、大卫芬奇、史蒂芬史匹柏、马丁史柯西斯、卓别林、以及周星驰的影响。23岁执导“17岁的天空”,活泼的电影语言、快剪技巧、独特的喜感令国片焕然一新缔造票房奇迹,为当年国片卖座冠军。

第二部长片“国士无双”挑战诈骗喜剧题材,多年后仍为许多观众心目中的口碑孤品。第三部长片– 末日奇说“骚人”,入围香港电影节。2019年,与Netflix推出“罪梦者”作为平台首部原创华语影集,内容形式大胆创新,热度火爆话题不断,亦获多项金钟奖入围肯定。

除担任导演外,陈映蓉同好剧本创作及影片剪辑,是 编/导/剪 同调的 “一条鞭” 论者。长片外,亦从事短片及大量的华语MV创作,包括“女力”、“走梦人”,合作的歌手包括张信哲、范晓萱、林俊杰、张惠妹、莫文蔚、田馥甄、郭采洁、李荣浩、罗志祥、容祖儿、许光汉…等。

导演阐述

这部片的精神可以用“勇敢”这个词来概括,勇敢的是敢于在21世纪初,亚洲各国都还对同志议题讳莫如深的时刻,去拍摄一部没有任何一位女性主演,类似男同志乌托邦的喜剧,这个想法新,更重要的是很大胆!

“新”也说明这部片想传达的核心价值。这个新,除了前述的“新”的题材(第一部台湾同志喜剧,乃至严格意义上台湾第一部的BL电影),就连影片制作思维都是当时非常新颖、新鲜的作法。两位新制片敢于启用新编剧、新导演、新摄影、新演员,组合成一个全新的“team”,打破传统,除了勇气还有对彼此的信任,以及整个年轻团队的“众志成城”的合作。

现在回首当时,也许因为不成熟,而充满热血及勇往直前的冲劲,乃至透着一股傻劲;也许因为多是第一次制作电影,所以没有包袱,跳脱框架,而展现各种新意,都是这部片想带给观众及台湾电影圈最想呈现的新的观影经验,与“大无畏”吧!

Synopsis

TIEN is an innocent 17-year old who goes to the big city for a summer of love and adventure.  On his very first night in Taipei, he locks eyes with the irresistible and irredeemable BAI, rumored to be the biggest playboy known to mankind.  Tien’s three friends- bartender YU, flamboyant CC, and fitness fanatic ALAN, worried about his growing interest in Bai, warn him off with an exaggerated tale of Bai’s scandalous past, in which the heartbroken became a heartbreaker.  Despite this, fate keeps bringing Tien and Bai together, until they finally recognize their love story and spend the night.  But the next morning, Bai goes missing while Tien is in the shower.  Unbeknownst to Tien, Bai has a secret that changes everything…

Director Biography

Born in October 1980, Chen Yin-jung is the first of an emerging generation of filmmakers from Taiwan who are interested in making populist films.  Her cinematic influences include Guy Ritchie, Ridley Scott, Martin Scorcese, David Fincher, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Tsui Hark, Charlie Chaplin, and Stephen Chow.  In 2002 she directed the award-winning short “Sorry Spy” which tells the comedic tale of three gangsters competing for control of a new turf.  Another short film “The Lost R5411”, selected by the Golden Horse Film Festival, is a story about five underachieving film school students who are trapped in their classroom one day, unable to exit.  “Formula 17” is Chen’s first feature-length film.   Her unconventional narrative style marked a breakthrough in Taiwan cinema, and established her as a filmmaker-to-watch overnight.   Since 2004, Chen has directed two more feature films “Catch”, and “Young Dudes”.   In 2020, she directed Netflix’s first foray into Chinese-language content.  The series “Nowhere Man” garnered high buzz and  publicity upon its airing, and later received several honors at the Golden Bell Awards.   Besides feature films, Chen also directs short films and music videos, working with many famous singers/artists.  

Director’s Statement

“Fearless” and “New” are the two most important values of the making of “Formula 17”.   At the beginning of the 21st century, it took such wild courage to tell a story set in a gay utopia in Asia!  

In addition to tackling this new genre and new subject matter, the production mentality was also fresh and ahead of its time.  Two first-time producers engaged a first-time new screenwriter, and then signed a first-time new director, who put together a beautiful cast of newcomer actors… The whole team was young and new; with courage and mutual trust, the movie came to be.   

Now, looking back, perhaps the film lacks maturity and feels somewhat impulsive, presenting an unusual screening experience for audiences at the time.   All this, we remember with no regret, because we had no baggage, and ultimately, no fear!
